LUNGS

Yesterday we had a new theatre experience. At 2 pm we took a seat on our library and watched a live performance of LUNGS from the Old Vic via Zoom.

It was the first Old Vic: In Camera project. A new artistic initiative that runs socially distanced performances streamed live from the iconic Old Vic stage with the empty auditorium as a backdrop.

The screen was divided into two images. Each camera followed one of the actors, Claire Foy and Matt Smith performing a socially distanced version of Duncan Macmillan’s hilarious emotional play about a couple wrestling with life’s biggest dilemmas live from The Old Vic.

‘I could fly to New York and back every day for seven years and still not leave a carbon footprint as big as if I have a child. Ten thousand tonnes of CO2. That’s the weight of the Eiffel Tower. I’d be giving birth to the Eiffel Tower’

It was hilarious indeed. Both Claire Foy and Matt Smith were superb at their performances. Our congratulations to both actors, the director Matthew Warchus and the rest of the team. And especially to the Old Vic for this incredible initiative. For an hour and a half, we forgot about social distancing and the restrictions we are facing since March. Let us hope we can resume our normal life soon.
